Femme Trek FAQs
Questions About Our Guided Hiking Tours for Women
Why are Femme Trek tours women-only?
Women often experience the outdoors differently than men.
That's why Femme Trek was intentionally created for women from the very beginning. Every hike, class, and outdoor experience is exclusively for women and led by an experienced female guide.
No wondering if there will be other women on the tour. No wondering if a female guide will be available.
No mixed groups. No surprises.
What is included in a Femme Trek hiking tour?
Every Femme Trek experience includes a professional female guide who is certified as a Wilderness First Responder, along with personalized support before and during your hike.
Our tours aren't just about reaching the destination. They're an opportunity to slow down, connect with nature, build confidence outdoors, and experience the magic of Rocky Mountain National Park with the support of an experienced female guide.
Do I need experience for Femme Trek’s hiking or snowshoeing tours?
No prior hiking or snowshoeing experience is required.
Many of our guests are trying something new, exploring Rocky Mountain National Park for the first time, or don’t want to hike alone. For all experiences, you should be at least moderately fit and comfortable walking on uneven terrain for an extended period of time.
Are Femme Trek hiking tours available year-round?
Yes, weather permitting. Every season offers something special in Rocky Mountain National Park. Summer brings wildflowers and alpine lakes, fall offers colorful aspens, and winter transforms the park into a peaceful magical wonderland.
Fitness & Ability – Who Can Join a Femme Trek Hiking Tour
Do I need to be in great shape to participate?
To participate in easy to moderate hikes, you should be at least moderately fit and comfortable walking on uneven terrain for several hours at elevation. For challenging and strenuous hikes like Chasm Lake, you must be in great physical condition.
Can beginners join Femme Trek hiking tours?
Absolutely.
Many Femme Trek guests are beginner hikers. While our trails often include rocky or uneven terrain, you don't need advanced hiking skills. If you're unsure which hike is right for you, we're happy to help you choose one that matches your comfort level and goals.
What if I have an injury or health concern?
Please let us know before your hike.
While we can't provide medical advice, we can help you choose a trail that's most appropriate for your abilities and discuss any concerns before your trip. Open communication helps us create the best possible experience for everyone.
Will we hike at high elevation?
Yes. Most Femme Trek hikes take place between approximately 8,000 and 11,500 feet above sea level.
We maintain a comfortable pace, take breaks as needed, and encourage everyone to listen to their body. If you're visiting from a lower elevation, we recommend spending a day or two acclimating before your hike whenever possible.
Planning & Preparation
What gear do I need to bring on a hike with Femme Trek?
You'll need a backpack and sturdy hiking footwear. During summer, trail runners with good traction are usually fine. For winter snowshoe tours, waterproof hiking boots are required.
After booking, you'll receive a detailed gear list so you'll know exactly what to bring.
How do I get a timed-entry permit to Rocky Mountain National Park?
Femme Trek's commercial permit includes timed-entry, so you do not need to obtain an additional timed-entry reservation. You will still need a valid park entrance pass to enter Rocky Mountain National Park.
If you plan to visit the park on your own before or after your guided experience, you will need a separate timed-entry reservation depending on the season and park regulations.
What happens if the weather is bad?
Mountain weather can change quickly, and safety always comes first.
If conditions aren't suitable for your scheduled hike, we'll work together to find an alternate trail or reschedule your experience. If neither option works, we'll follow the cancellation and refund terms outlined in our booking policy.
Location & Terrain – Where We Hike
Where do the hikes take place?
Our guided hikes take place throughout Rocky Mountain National Park near Estes Park, Colorado, and Grand Lake, Colorado.
We intentionally choose trails that showcase the beauty of the park while offering a range of experiences, from peaceful lakes and waterfalls to alpine views and mountain scenery.
Are your routes in busy areas like Bear Lake?
While some hikes begin near popular trailheads such as Bear Lake, many Femme Trek experiences explore quieter areas of Rocky Mountain National Park where we can enjoy the scenery and leave the crowds behind.
Winter Adventures
Is Rocky Mountain National Park worth visiting in winter?
Absolutely.
Winter is one of our favorite seasons in Rocky Mountain National Park. Snow-covered forests, frozen lakes, fewer visitors, and peaceful trails create a completely different experience than summer.
Do you offer snowshoeing tours in Rocky Mountain National Park?
Yes. Our women's snowshoeing tours run from late fall through early spring and offer a peaceful way to experience Rocky Mountain National Park during winter.
I've never been snowshoeing before. Will you teach me?
Of course!
Most women who join our snowshoe tours are trying it for the first time. We'll provide snowshoes and trekking poles and teach you everything you need to know before we head out on the trail.
No experience required, just a willingness to have fun and enjoy a winter adventure.
Forest Bathing Experiences
What is forest bathing, and do you offer it?
Yes!
Forest bathing is a guided wellness experience that invites you to slow down and reconnect with nature through your senses. Inspired by the Japanese practice of Shinrin-yoku, these gentle walks focus on presence, observation, and connection rather than mileage or fitness.
Many women find forest bathing deeply relaxing and a meaningful way to experience Rocky Mountain National Park beyond traditional hiking.
Does Femme Trek offer survival skills training?
Yes! Femme Trek offers women-only wilderness survival skills courses designed specifically for hikers.
Our courses focus on practical survival skills and decision-making for day hikers rather than extreme survival scenarios. Topics may include fire starting, shelter building, essential gear, preparedness, and what to do if you become lost, injured, or unexpectedly delayed on the trail.
Whether you're new to hiking or simply want to feel more confident outdoors, our survival courses are designed to be approachable, hands-on, and empowering. The goal isn't to turn you into a survival expert. It's to help you feel prepared, capable, and confident when things don't go according to plan.
